Drinking water plays a key role in our daily lives, which is why its quality has a direct impact on the health and comfort of its users. Regular testing of potable water is essential to ensure it meets strict national and EU standards. The ANCHEM Research Laboratory offers comprehensive analyses tailored to the needs of individual users, water supply companies, production plants and public institutions.
Legal Requirements for Drinking Water
Drinking water testing in Poland is regulated by:
- The Regulation of the Minister of Health of December 7, 2017, on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Journal of Laws 2017, item 2294).
- EU Directive 2020/2184 of the European Parliament and Council on the quality of water intended for human consumption.
Both documents define acceptable physical, chemical, and microbiological levels for drinking water, as well as requirements for monitoring, source protection, and technological parameters.
Parameters Tested in Drinking Water
Microbiological parameters:
- Escherichia coli (E. coli),
- coliform bacteria,
- fecal enterococci,
- total microorganism count at 22°C and 36°C,
- Clostridium perfringens (including spores, if required).
Physicochemical parameters:
- pH (acidity or alkalinity of water),
- electrical conductivity (indicator of dissolved salts),
- color and turbidity (water clarity),
- concentration of iron, manganese, copper, and zinc,
- levels of nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia,
- levels of fluoride, sulfate, and chloride.
Toxic parameters:
- heavy metals, including lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and chromium,
- aromatic hydrocarbons and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs),
- pesticides and their residues.
Other tests:
- presence of sodium, calcium, and magnesium ions,
- analysis of water hardness (indicating calcium and magnesium salt content),
- sensory tests: odor and taste.
When Should Drinking Water Be Tested?
- before commissioning a water intake,
- regularly as part of water quality monitoring in water supply systems,
- in case of reported changes in water taste, odor, or color,
- in public facilities (schools, hospitals, hotels),
- after modernization or repairs of water supply networks.
