The cleanliness of bathing water is vital for the health of those who use it for recreational purposes. Testing water from bathing sites ensures its quality and monitors compliance with applicable legal standards. The ANCHEM Testing Laboratory offers comprehensive analyses of bathing water, supporting managers and property owners in maintaining the highest safety standards.
LEGAL BASIS FOR BATHING WATER TESTING
Water quality testing in bathing areas in Poland is regulated by:
- The Act of July 20, 2017 – Water Law (Journal of Laws 2022, item 2625).
- The Regulation of the Minister of Health of January 17, 2019, on the requirements for bathing water quality (Journal of Laws 2019, item 255).
- At the European level – Directive 2006/7/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of February 15, 2006, concerning the management of bathing water quality.
SCOPE OF BATHING WATER TESTING
Microbiological requirements:
- number of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria,
- number of fecal enterococci.
Visual water monitoring:
- cyanobacterial blooms,
- proliferation of macroalgae or marine phytoplankton,
- presence of contaminants such as tarry materials, distillation residues, glass, plastics, rubber, or other waste.
Additionally:
- Physicochemical and sensory parameters:
- water clarity (turbidity),
- water color and odor,
- presence of toxic substances such as heavy metals or pesticides (if required).
WHY ARE TESTS NECESSARY?
- Health safety – ensures that bathing water is free from pathogens that can cause skin, gastrointestinal, or respiratory illnesses.
- Regulatory compliance – regular testing is a legal obligation for managers of bathing sites and recreational water areas.
- Environmental protection – monitoring water quality helps quickly identify and eliminate sources of contamination.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD BATHING WATER BE TESTED?
The frequency of tests depends on the characteristics of the bathing area, usage intensity, and local regulations. Typically, tests are conducted:
- before the bathing season begins,
- regularly during the season (at least once a month),
- after any reported contamination incident.
